Soil takes thousands of years to form through minerals breaking down and billions of microscopic lives. A few centuries of industrialization collapsed that rich living system almost entirely. The soil records heavy emissions and deposits, becoming a main vector of toxic exposure for locals. Reclaiming these soils from those who failed to protect this shared foundation of life is then a national interest. We engage with the soil’s microscopic networks to heal and sustain these dirty grounds, reinforcing the commons as a shared foundation.
