The history of the Étang de Berre is that of an extractive landscape, which has seen fishing and local prud'homies gradually disappear in favour of the petrochemical industry. Today, while France is supposed to be a pioneer in regulating plastic pollution, plastic companies have every right to pollute the Étang and harm all its living bodies. How can inhabitants reclaim the land through justice, treating the present and past damage, preventing future environmental crimes, while monitoring and reimagining the polluting matter as a resource of the commons?
