The project of this student center begins with the recognition that
most student spaces in the EPFL are organized around productivity
and control. Occupation is anticipated, behaviour is
regulated, and space is made legible through
function.
In the underground level of EPFL, where the
infrastructure of parking is slowly losing
relevance, our project proposes another
condition: a space capable of accommodating
difference, ambiguity, and change.
Light, sound, temperature, water, and electricity
are distributed across the field through the existing
columns, which become instruments of environmental
variation instead of structural repetition.
What emerges is a loose and open Framework
in which forms of occupation remain unresolved.
The project does not prescribe how space
should be used. It creates the conditions for
unplanned encounters, temporary
appropriations, and collective forms of life to
appear over time.
