Bellerive I

Located on the shores of the lake, the Bellerive swimming pool and its surrounding waterfront were transformed and expanded in 1964 for the Swiss National Exhibition. These interventions involved extensive land filling and the creation of large open areas capable of hosting a wide range of events. Over time, the site has established itself as a leisure-oriented public space, accommodating both recreational activities and the temporary installation of events and their workers. Over four phases, students developed a project on this site, progressing from the conception of foundations to an exploration of the potential project.

I. A new system emerges from the layout of existing water pipelines and the reuse of concrete blocks already present on site. A new grid guides and channels movement, shaping spatial experience while highlighting the flow of natural forces crossing the site.

II. Divided into four parts, the site is structured through the design of various typologies and their vertical elements, which organize and hierarchize the spaces.

III. Copper sheets are folded and curved to cover the existing structure, generating a variety of spaces conceived as different functions serving a shared community.

IV. A self-construction catalogue is made available to the community. This approach promotes easily buildable elements using low-cost, reused materials. The components rely on accessible knowledge and construction techniques.
