Located in the heart of Lausanne, the Vallon once hosted the city’s first waste incineration plant, before operations were relocated to the Tridel facility in La Sallaz. In 2021, analyses revealed that this former installation had heavily contaminated the site and parts of the city with dioxins. Marked by this pollution, the area is now largely marginalized and neglected by both authorities and the public. Over four phases, students developed a project on this site, progressing from the conception of foundations to an exploration of the potential project.

I. Anchoring systems punctually transform asphalt, railway tracks, and trees into distinct foundations.

II. Various roof typologies integrate into these anchoring systems, each defining a specific space while maintaining a consistent material palette.

III. Depending on their structure, some spaces accommodate more conventional forms of habitation, while others require minimal comfort. These alternative structures suggest diverse uses - temporary or even non-human.

IV. Residential functions are distributed across multiple independent volumes. Rather than concentrating everything into a single block, the space is fragmented into autonomous units that respect the surrounding forest morphology. Between them, small interconnected gardens and green spaces emerge as places for walking, interaction, and exchange.
