Oron
Located east of Lausanne, the Oron road is frequently affected by rockfalls. The molasse cliff is prone to erosion, requiring protective measures to secure the adjacent road. Over four phases, students developed a project on this site, progressing from the conception of foundations to an exploration of the potential project.
I. Metal mesh pockets are installed to protect the road and collect material falling from the cliff.
II. The collected molasse is reused to recreate stone blocks, gradually forming a long wall separating the cliff from the road.
III. Terraced levels fill the gap between the cliff and the long wall. Massive stone blocks crown the façade, housing the rooftop staircases.
IV. Shared staircases connect gardens to dwellings and lead up to the roof. A rooftop walkway offers all residents panoramic views of the cliff on one side and the lake and mountains on the other. The cliff garden evolves through erosion, its nature shaped by the slow, continuous fall of rocks.
