The Kunsthal is a heterogeneous composition with multiple geometries, materials, structures and trajectories. Set in a complex urban condition between two levels: from the street to the park, while straddling a road, the museum creates a network unique to itself all the while conciling the needs of an exhibition space.
This architecture of fragments allows for a permeable building, that serves as a gate and a bridge letting the experience come before formality. The visitors are invited to palch through the rooms as the architecture honours the art. There are four autonomous parts stratified by programs, three exhibition halls, an auditorium, a restaurant and two more intimate exhibition spaces. All these co-existing through sensory trajectories : ramps, escaping corridors, clashes of materials, hidden rooms and overhanging platforms. The fragments’ metaphorical charge implicitly links the parts into a whole, leaving us with a project that responds to a multiple and complex context; an expressions of future urban challenges.
