TYPE NETWORK
According to Mark Pimlott
Traced between elements, places, activities and people, networks are historically linked to the origins of civilisation as implicit and explicit lines between different uses. The network is not defined by its shape or size, but by the programmes it connects. It defines rules that apply within its space. The boundaries between uses and space transition are not clearly defined. The character of the network is intrinsically linked to the experience provided to users through its dimensions, its proportions, the ability to move around it, to wander through it, to stop in it, to act, to be together, to be alone, to be.
MANIFESTO
Network through scales
Due to its location, the Hall SG is part of a network at different levels: in its entirety within the EPFL campus, then within the SG building, and finally as an autonomous entity. The ambition is to address, connect and interact with these scales, weaving links between the multiple programs and spaces inside and outside the Hall SG. The language of the network we developped is defined by its signage. It orients and servs users through the different functions it offers. As it crosses the scales, its form changes, bridgin the urban with domestical scales.
