The project transforms the seemingly unremarkable Villapizzone train station, in the outskirts of Milan, into a both functional and distinctive space. The simple intervention connects three segregated neighborhoods, forming a consistent student hub for the Bovisa Politecnico Campus. Morover, the project is able to look at the future transformations of this fragment of Milano, like, for example, the new Gasometer Park.
The tools of the station transformation are subtle walkways, new openings and light canopies. The materials to realize it are fully salvaged from the existing station and recomposed into new elements. This approach improves circulation, connects the station to its surroundings, and promotes resource reuse.
