A series of abstract sculptures based on free composition and assemblage of found objects and their subsequent visual embedding in graphic and large-scale photographic contexts.
In the practical part of the course, the students were asked to create various abstract sculptures from found objects: a freely composed collage of sculptural objects. For visual reproduction of these three-dimensional assemblages, they were subsequently photographed, isolated and given a coloured background for initial graphic processing. The next step was to embed the assemblages in a large-scale photographic visual environment, as a transformation into utopian architectural structures. To this end, the sculptures were photographed in adherence to the prevailing principles of light and perspective in large scale photographs, before being isolated and finally inserted in their new visual context appropriately, using digital montage. The aim was to explore the potential of the digital collage, as well as to demonstrate the creation of new contexts in terms of both of image and meaning.
