The goal of the project is to sensitize and prevent the imminent disappearance of nomadic cultures worldwide. Nomadic communities, such as the Sami people of Northern Scandinavia, the Bakhtiari people in the Zagros mountains, the Tuareg people in the Sahara desert, and the Mongolian nomads in the Gobi desert, are facing government pressure and changing environmental conditions, which force them to settle down and abandon their traditional lifestyle, leading to the loss of their cultural heritage.
To address this issue, the project proposes a decentralized exhibition spread across multiple sites globally. The chosen sites are characterized by their common ground pumping typology, including gas stations and wells, which serve as gathering points for both nomadic and sedentary people.
The main focus of the project is to record and broadcast nomadic oral heritage, including throat singing, traditional music, and oral storytelling. The exhibition is designed like a camp, with fixed and removable structures. Built modules serve as listening spaces for visitors to explore and experience nomadic traditions, designed to provide optimal listening conditions with local materials like bricks, stoneware tiles, and acoustic wood panels, powered by solar panels on the rooftop.
The selected pavilion in Tunisia, near the city of "Alfaouar," is incorporated into the existing site, consisting of a well, an abandoned room, and a water tank arranged according to a grid of concrete pillars. The removable tensile structure is supported by additional pillars, resembling those of gas stations, which also provide electricity for charging spots for visitors' phones.
The project aims to create a resource hub offering water, oil, and electricity to both nomads and sedentary visitors while preserving the existing site's beauty and integrity. The focus on sustainable energy, solar panels, and electricity provided to nomads highlights the importance of preserving nomadic cultures while embracing modern technologies to support their needs.
Overall, the exhibition seeks to raise awareness of the value of nomadic heritage and cultural diversity, encouraging efforts to protect and cherish these communities and their traditions.
