Andreas Bründler - LIF Lectures 2019-2020

Jo François Taillieu

Andreas Bründler and Daniel Buchner founded Buchner Bründler in 1997 after having studied at the University of Applied Sciences in Basel. Context and space play a central role in their work, that has been awarded numerous prizes, such as the Swiss Art Award or Concrete Award 13. They have been teaching at the EPF Lausanne and the ETH Zurich.

Under the title Constellations – Correlations the lecture of Andreas Bründler traces the interaction between projects of different scales and complexity using specific topics from the work. How are conceptual approaches found and tested, how do they mature, when do they develop into new architectural forms?

The majority of the works are engaged with city and society and lead to differentiated designs. In addition, small projects hold a special position within the oeuvre of Buchner Bründler. The clarity of the task shifts priorities; external complexity makes room for inner profundity. Seen in this way, the small projects are concentrated artefacts of architectural thinking and action.
