RELIER LA VILLE AU FLEUVE

Une convergence inédite apparaît aujourd’hui entre les objectifs de densification à l’intérieur du milieu bâti et les stratégies de maîtrise des risques spécifiques aux zones inondables. Il s’ouvre ainsi une nouvelle ère de réconciliation entre les cours d’eau et les territoires urbains qu’ils traversent. Dans ce contexte, des sites peu valorisés jusqu’à aujourd’hui se révèlent particulièrement propices à la régénération urbaine et à la création de nouveaux quartiers s’inscrivant dans une optique de transition vers la durabilité. Au-delà des questions propres aux mesures de protection contre les crues, de multiples enjeux urbanistiques et architecturaux questionnent la démarche projectuelle à adopter pour le développement de ces nouveaux quartiers fluviaux.

Durant l’année académique 2018-2019, l’atelier RHODANIE URBAINE a exploré ces enjeux en développant diverses possibilités pour l’évolution d’un secteur situé au sud des voies ferroviaires à Sion. Ancienne zone industrielle en voie de mutation dans les prochaines décennies, délimité au nord par le nouveau campus Energypolis et au sud par le tracé de l’autoroute, ce site est traversé en son cœur par le Rhône et constitue dans ce sens un espace particulièrement stratégique. Par une approche multi-scalaire -  du projet urbain au détail constructif - l’atelier a en particulier fait émerger huit visions distinctes, qui mettent en évidence le fort potentiel des lieux.

Grâce à l’engagement des étudiants et à l’apport enrichissant de multiples intervenants, les résultats obtenus ont pu répondre à un double objectif. D’un point de vue urbanistique, la diversité des solutions proposées par les étudiants nourrit les réflexions sur le caractère spécifique des quartiers fluviaux en transition. D’un point de vue didactique, la démarche a favorisé l’émergence chez chaque étudiant d’un savoir structuré qui, en tant qu’ossature pour la pensée, permettra d’accueillir de multiples autres connaissances académiques et professionnelles.
