MEASURES
Acts of surveying the land
To measure assumes a distance between two or more things. It also means to establish references: between spaces, sizes, horizons. We measure, with the senses of the body, a territory that emanates from our sites in Geneva. Starting from an origin, a distance is measured and surveyed, and a territory begins to emerge in conversation with the starting point. We produce, through surveying, a set of potentialities. Reading the land is an act of imagining.
To reconstruct together the squares Marc Louis Arlaud and René-Auberjonois, the students measured them with ropes and weights divided into 12x12m sectors. After bringing the drawing on the site, transcribing the axes of these sectors on the streets of the city, they crafted a plaster model of the ground, the most dramatic spatial characteristic of these two piazzas.
Brought together, these models reterritorialize the city through the students subjectivity and set the course for the second exercice.
