Despite sharing many political and civic sensitivities, the local residents of Le Mirail and the student community housed in the University are spatially and socially segregated. Through architectural interventions, the aim is to weave these communities together by “parasitizing” each with fragments of the other, dissolving barriers and fostering
community exchange. The project seeks to design conditions to nurture communities, creating foundations for collective empowerment and resistance against the many forms of systemic oppression and neoliberal governance they both endure. Toward a promise of permanence for these temporary spaces, the aim is establishing conditions for understanding le Mirail as a commons.
