We are strong believers in the necessity of an exhibition like the Phänomena, and the impact it will have on all its participants and visitors. It addresses the most important questions of our near future, and as most of them are extremely urgent, we have decided to create a campus, that will first host the exhibition and then evolve into workspaces. No time should be lost on rebuilding, and the spirit of Phänomena should be ongoing. We want to create solutions for the problems we present.
To increase this effect even more, we decided to open up for collaborations. Our idea is to create not an exclusive exhibition, but rather a space that is open to anyone. In our proposal, the park plays a very important role. It invites various kinds of people to our Exhibition. You can spend a day, an afternoon, or even just a lunch break on the plot. But it should be easily accessible and can make the discussion about said topics an integrated part of our everyday life.
Phänomena will be the campfire of the region, that links the different industries, and provokes interdisciplinary discussions.
In order to allow easy access, we decided to keep our buildings on the west side, in close proximity to the adjacent road and metro station. Based on the site research we have made, we decided to create a waterline in the east. This also creates a natural gradation from east to west. The northern and southern peripheries will be framed by slopes and trees. For this park, we tried to work with as few interventions as possible.
Our buildings should be of high quality, but serious and simple. We‘re not looking for le grande geste, but for a credible and functional space. Therefore we decided to construct it with a simple timber frame, which feels a bit industrial, and like this also emphasizes the idea of an productive space. The Campus we create is quite dense, but only one story high, to allow easy transition between buildings. This vibrant cluster will open up to two plazas, in order du accentuate the interaction between people.
