Phäenomena: Playground

Juhee Oh

Phäenomena links each field to aid in understanding the numerous scientific disciplines. They wish to promote scientific curiosity. They also want a strategy based on experience and understanding comprehending the world. I took an architectural idea from a jungle gym to reflect Phäenomena's features. Through the repetition frames, the jungle gym also maintains continuity. Curiosity is aroused by diverse actions that are visible via the frame. By exploring the cube, people can understand the sense of three-dimensional space.
On an urban scale, the grid of 7.2 gives the visitor the feeling, to be inside and outside at the same time. The frames implement a feeling of space without cutting the relationship to the outside. The 2.4 m grid is a circulation area that connects each program and provides an experience through people's circulation in addition to the proposed program. The exhibition spaces (boxes) are hung at various heights within the frame. They do not have a fixed direction, such as vertical or horizontal movement like jungle gym. Finally, the furniture steps on a human scale are formed by the smallest scale frame (0.6 m, 0.3 m). Furthermore, unlike the existing jungle gym, it reveals its willingness to accomodate a wide range of programs and experiences through scaled transformation.
