GOODS

The building is a logistical platform placed between the center and the periphery of Paris, right along the peripheric belt. It satisfies the need to store goods, which are understood as non-perishable products of consumption. Their permanent flow and existence within the capitalist system leads those objects to move as fast as possible. Which tends, paradoxically, to prohibit their storage since it’s perceived as a loss of economic value. These places of storage are places of transit rather than places where things remain.

Due to the narrowness of the plot, the plinth of the building is dedicated to the circulation of the trucks and the loading and unloading of the goods. To be more efficient, the goods are then stacked on three floors, and vertically moved by lifts on one side of the building. The lattice structure made of steel covers a span of 45m which allows a free plan on 150m long.

Such a logistical platform has to be related to its context, which is almost in the center of the city. Indeed, each floor is progressively withdrawn to make way for terraces inhabited by public programs. The parts of the façade dedicated to the goods are covered by translucent polycarbonate, as a screen that is mirroring the city from far away. The ones dedicated to the neighborhood are transparent, allowing each public program to be visible from the street.
