The dataset, seed and interpolation explore the interactions between two buildings. These interactions question the connection between the facades through the gap and the merged facades. With the exception of the gap, almost a crack, the generated façade follows the Zurich character of the Altstadt. The windows have a regulated rhythm with a simple entablature and the plaster has a color in the Zurich range. The crack is more debatable and can give rise to many interpretations questioning the continuity of the roof, the void between the two and the dialogue between the buildings. The challenge is to interpret the crack with all its potential through the exploration of the dialogue between two volumes. One side of the building faces the Limmat with a very public and busy street. On the other side there is an inner courtyard with greenery and a much quieter situation.
The buildings of the Joint Twins consist of four parts. The first is the core, which contains everything essential for the buildings and functions. Then, on the lower parts, where the building is joined, we have the public and common space. Next, at the top, where the building splits in two, the apartments. Finally, there is the envelope that integrates into the city of Zurich. Since all the essential elements are in the core and there are many windows on the facade, this allows flexibility and variation.
On the first floor we can find a café and a store, and then the second floor is an open work space. These are the public and common areas. The plans of the apartments are composed of different variations depending on the users, apartments for students with several rooms, parents and children, couples, single people, etc.
