Open Kitchen

“Open kitchen” is a project based on opening the existing apartments to a more public residential program called “Hasook jip” which is a Korean housing tradition where people rent rooms in their apartments for students, workers, etc. Going from the ground floor to the top, the added kitchen activates the life inside the apartments and makes the Hasookjip typology possible.

As the project is based on traditional Korean architecture, bricks are the only form of materiality used in the different interventions. The bricks' porosity in the composition of the facade permits keeping a visual connection with the outside, creating air circulation inside the apartments and planting different types of plants for cooking that adds the smelling part to the experience of these kitchens.
