The project stands as a vector of connection between a global and a local scale of manufacturing. It aims to recreate an old street by cutting a way through the long and linear Sewoon building, and making a transition between a traditional and authentic district within a part of the city which is in rapid mutation and transformation in the face of globalization. This bridge of two worlds is also created thanks to its program. This urban factory creates new values and products out of discarded fabrics. Today, 13 Million tons of textiles are thrown away. Yet, these discarded materials become a resource if reused correctly.
Large hotel brands use a lot more fabric because of the pursuit of high quality standards, frequently replacing their linen products. In this way smaller hotels who use smaller quantities and are more flexible in their use of fabric, can reuse well processed transformed linens. There is in this sense a way of giving back from the global system to the local one.
The project is like a machine in itself that follows the concept of having every step shown on the outside and to use the least amount of energy. It creates a special atmosphere for the surrounding neighborhood. Consequently, the street is constantly changing the way it looks depending on what color and type of linens is being transformed. The processes are organized from the top sky bridges to the street and the wanderer can follow the flows as it gets cleaned, dryed or decomposed.
